This article revises the dynamics that characterized the relation between Iraq and the
West along the 20th century and that were the demonstration of the pretensions of domination of the great powers and their disputes over a region in which interests and strategic resources have converged historically. Those pressures have generated and exacerbated the
regional and internal complexities and they have had, without doubt, a decisive influence in the destiny of the country, still defined by the interference of the external powers.
