Documentos PDF
Abstract
Summary in foreign language
Through a review of Northrop Frye’s and Harold Bloom’s critical theories, which belong to the tradition of North American criticism in the second half of the twentieth century, the author intends to analyze the problem of the evaluative function of literary criticism. This problem has emerged in recent discussions in our country and still requires careful examination. Frye’s and Bloom’s theories are enlightening in this respect, although they present, at the same time, considerable limitations. The objective of this paper is to establish a horizon within which we can reconstruct the evaluative function of criticism as a way to express the relationship between literature and the spiritual development of individuals and societies.
