This study evaluated the population status of Diploria labyrinthiformis and Millepora complanata in reef sectors of Santa Marta, Colombian Caribbean, through analyses of abundance, size structure, cover, and health condition. D. labyrinthiformis showed its highest density at Rosita, a locality affected by anthropogenic pressure and sedimentation, with a predominance of intermediate and large colonies, suggesting adult persistence but possible recruitment limitations. Significant differences among measurement methods also showed that 2D analyses may underestimate actual colony size. In contrast, M. complanata showed low cover at Sotavento and a patchy distribution. Its size structure, estimated through 3D photogrammetry, was dominated by intermediate-sized colonies, possibly associated with fragmentation, active growth, and clonal propagation. It is concluded that D. labyrinthiformis may serve as an indicator of persistence under disturbance, while M. complanata mainly depends on its capacity for fragmentation and substrate recolonization.
