Abstract
Abstract: Energy storage has become a fundamental component in renewable energy systems,
especially those including batteries. However, during the charging and the discharging process,
there are some parameters that are not controlled by the user. That uncontrolled working leads to
aging of the batteries and a reduction of their life cycle. Therefore, it causes an early replacement.
Different control methods have been developed with the goal of protecting the battery and
extending its life expectancy, being the most used the constant current-constant voltage. However,
several studies show that charging time can be reduced by using Fuzzy Logic Control or Model
Predictive Control. Other benefits are; temperature control and an extension of life expectancy. For
all these reasons, FLC and MPC have proven to be more efficient than traditional charge control
methods
