For this article, the trade relationship between Brazil and Argentina with the US and China, the greatest powers in the automotive sector, was analyzed. Our objective was to study the advance of Asia’s giant within the region using data related to the export of manufactures. With it we aim to contribute to the study of the links woven by China with the South American bourgeoisies. To do this, import series –available on the official websites of each country–from the 21st century for this sector were collected and examined. Using statistical processing, we assessed the weight of the world powers in South American imports and the moments of breakdown of the relationship. We found that, since 2009, Chinese products have climbed positions in the region and redefined the sectoral trade matrix.spa
