Resumen

Some studies and developments in the market show that hydrogen generators by water electrolysis - GHE (electrolysis or electrolytic cells) are a technology that can be used in internal combustion engines to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, especially for the transport sector, and consequently reduce the emissions of Greenhouse Gases - GHGs, especially Carbon dioxide (CO2) and other pollutants resulting from combustion, which affect environment and people’s health. This article explains general aspects about hydrogen generators by electrolysis of water, their use in Internal Combustion Engines (ICE). It uses the Net Present Value (NPV) method, a method for evaluating medium and long-term investments, if GHEs are an economically viable technology for installation in private transportation vehicles in the city of Bogotá, Colombia.
