| dc.description.abstract | La fibra de la planta de la fique es la fibra nacional de Colombia. Es una fibra dura, fina, brillante y blanca a la que se le conoce también como Pita, Champadrao Cabuya. Los principales departamentos donde se cultiva y trabaja son Nariño, Cauca, Santander y Antioquia. En Antioquia se le conoce como “Oro blanco”. El aumento de la fabricación agrícola de café en el siglo XX fue lo que potenció y aumentó la fabricación de los sacos de fique para granos. Cada año Colombia produce entre 22 y 24 mil toneladas de cabuya, de las cuales entre 8 y 12 mil son destinadas a la producción de artesanía y el resto se utilizan para la producción de costales. El 90% de la exportación de café depende de los costales de fique. | spa |
| dc.description.abstractenglish | The fibre of the fique plant is the national fibre of Colombia. It is a hard, fine, shiny and white fibre that is also known as Pita, Champadrao Cabuya. The main departments where it is cultivated and worked are Nariño, Cauca, Santander and Antioquia. In Antioquia it is known as "Oro blanco" (white gold). The increase in the agricultural production of coffee in the 20th century was what boosted and increased the production of fique sacks for beans. Each year Colombia produces between 22 and 24 thousand tons of cabuya, of which between 8 and 12 thousand tons are destined for handicraft production and the rest is used for the production of sacks.
