On August 10, 1983 the ancient temple of Santa Clara Convent was declared a Museum, in spite of this, continues to be seen at the present time, for some people, as a Catholic place of worship; therefore, in the year 2000 with the aim of ratifying its status as a museum, the doors were opened to exhibitions of contemporary art presenting dialogs with the colonial; among these are the proposals of two Colombian artists: Rossina Bossio with her work of The Holy Beauty Project (2012), which is composed of 17 images of women with dual personality, between the religious and the advertising; and the work of María Eugenia Trujillo with Hidden Women (2014), where their custodies caused a great impact, to the point of generating a process of censorship.
This document constitutes an approach to the analysis of the creative and curatorial process of these two exhibitions, starting with an exercise that captures the voice of the artists, the curator of the Museum and the media with their different positions, which made it possible to establish a link between these two artistic samples that disrupt the symbolic elements present in the ancient church; exposed through its colonial images, in which a construction of women is expressed from a male perspective. Based on this, an analysis is made not only of some of the works, but the impact caused by these to be presented powerfully to challenge and redefine those female subjectivities that still apply today.
